The CIO as Trusted Advisor
CIO Master Class led by Dr Brian Davis
The Challenge
Although the CIO has emerged as the most senior ICT executive in most organisations today, it was originally conceived that the role would also bring ICT to the top table and make the CIO the “Trusted Adviser” on ICT for the top management team. However, the reality and experience of many of today’s CIO’s is different. In many cases, CIOs have continued to struggle to gain full acceptance from their CXO peers and have therefore not had the opportunity to play a full part in influencing corporate strategy.
With the growing focus on ICT led innovation and the significant changes in the ICT landscape (such as the arrival of cloud computing, the growth of social networking and the consumerization of information access), the CIO of the future may now have a greater opportunity to play this vital role of ICT “Trusted Adviser” to the top management team.
Our Solution
Our workshop leader, Brian Davis, is possibly unique in that having successfully worked in the role of CIO for a major Irish energy utility he then took time out to complete a PhD on the subject of the evolving role of the CIO and the contribution of the CIO in large organisations. His insights and personal contribution to our understanding of the future of the CIO and enterprise ICT are immense. In this highly interactive workshop, we will examine the continuing evolution of the CIO role, especially in relation to the growing requirement for a focal point for innovation and as a “Trusted Adviser” to the CEO and top team.
Benefits and Outcomes
- Your understanding of this important and often misunderstood role of CIO will be greatly clarified.
- Your understanding of the impact of the continual and future innovation of ICT technologies on the role and focus of the CIO will be powerfully extended.
- You will achieve a much better understanding of the growing expectations on CIOs and how they can best position themselves as the true “Trusted Adviser” to the top management team.
