Alistair Fuller
Director of IT at Signet Trading, the world’s number 1 specialty retail jeweller, Alistair’s career has spanned every function of IT from computer operations, through systems development, business change now to leading and transforming IT teams in fast-changing high pressure environments.
After a good Grammar School education, an a brief spell in the UK Junior National Cycling Squad, Alistair started out as a trainee computer operator and worked his way through systems development in the manufacturing sector, including spells at Rolls-Royce Motors and conglomerates such as Thomas Tilling and Cope Allman, before moving into retail with The Burton Group in the 1990s. Since then he has progressed through consulting and paratrooper CIO roles across different sectors including, mining, media, food services and now back into retail with Signet.
In his 30s he took a management studies diploma and then an MBA to supplement his broad technical skills. This fuelled his practical application of management thinking in the real world and, when coupled with a three year period working closely with HR and Organisational Development at Burtons and the BBC, has provided a unique perspective on the role IT has to play in developing business capabilities that can compete and win in the marketplace.
